We want to thank everyone that supported Project Snow this year on and off the hill. Even though it was a logistically challenging winter with storm after storm, we were still able to take 62 youth snowboarding at Mt. Rose Ski Resort. We would like to especially thank all 53 volunteers who donated a total of 636 hours to Project Snow! Not only did they teach foster youth how to snowboard but they also set a precedence of community support and volunteerism.
As we wrapped up our third season, we definitely saw significant results in our small efforts. For example, at the start of the program only thirty-three percent of participants could say how much exercise they need everyday. By the end of the season, eighty nine percent of participants could say they need at least 60 minutes or more of physical activity everyday. Thirty percent of participants had no physical education during school and sixty-six percent of participants had never been snowboarding before. All in all, everyone had fun and almost all participants said they would love to snowboard again if given the opportunity.
Thank you to the following sponsors and their support in helping us reach our goals:
Mikuni Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar
*A special thanks goes out to the Children’s Cabinet for donating transportation and storage space. Also, we want to thank the Washoe County Social Services for coordinating with us to provide their youth the opportunity to learn to snowboard.
We’re looking for an even better season next year. However, we need your support and donations. Click here to become a member and donate to Project Snow and/or purchase a Project Snow t-shit on line from Eternal!
We had a great day up at Mt. Rose! A few of the Children’s Cabinet youth joined us to endure the cold and high winds. The snow was good and the attitudes of the participants and volunteers was awesome. Thank you to everyone who came out and gave it their all!
We had an awesome trip on Sunday with good weather and people! There were a total of 25 youth and volunteers who came up to shred at Mt. Rose. We want to thank Whole Foods in Reno for providing us with healthy drinks for our trip and to Whitney Ziel and Andrew Shrimmer, Christy Hill and Bar of America’s executive chef, for putting together our fresh and tasty sandwiches! Also, thanks to Paul Heran who captured a few photos through out the day…check em’ out!
